In the name of nostalgia and legacy, three former record-setting explorers set out on a mad adventure of two amphibious Land Rover Defenders sailing and driving them across the globe.
But how two be three middle-aged, white men in the age of Woke? In two slightly colonial, environmentally harmful diesel-trucks?  A provocative and vulnerable tale of three complex men in an attempt to escape conventions, cancel-culture and mortality. Facing and finding their position and identity in a new awareness era and among each other.

Hundreds of films on great explorers an explorations already exist. Men who do impossible journeys by defying death and nature. However, the film also aims to address exactly that; the legacy of exploration, the lack of indigenous and female representation and the male explorer phenomena and persona. Especially as the expedition all of a sudden find itself in the middle of history. What are the moral and ethical codecs around an expedition in the shadow of a raging war?

The film shows the three men as multifaceted characters. Charismatic and full of wild stories of combatting bears and helicopter-crashes in the Antarctic, but also dare to show and deal with their vulnerabilities, failures and life lessons too. And how their non-conventional lifestyles have had consequences for especially family and close relationships.

The expedition represent a longing for an era that is hasty disappearing labelled harmful and outdated. And a revolt against what they consider societal persecution and cancel-culture.

DefenderX is a tale of today as well as the inherent human yearning to explore untouched corners and the need to go beyond the mundane of everyday life. A raw, vulnerable and crazy film full of humour, self-irony and absurdity as the impossible journey unfolds.
